Ludhiana

Ludhiana is one of the most populous and the largest cities in Punjab State. During the time of the Tughlaq dynasty of the Delhi sultanate, a fort was constructed nearby the present-day, Ludhiana. Which was later captured by Raja Jasrat during his campaign in Punjab from 1421 to 1422. After 58 years, Ludhiana was officially found and established by the members of the Lodhi dynasty, the rules of the Delhi sultanate. Sultan Sikandar Lodhi, who was the ruling sultan back then, he sent his two chiefs Yusuf Khan and Nihad Khan to reinforce the Lodhi control. The chiefs camped at the Mir Hota village, which was near the present Ludhiana. Yusuf Khan founded Sultanpur after crossing the Sutlej River, while Nihad Khan founded Ludhiana at the site of Mir Hota.

Ludhiana was initially named as “Lodhi-ana” which means the “Lodhi town”, which later shifted to “Lodiana” and then to the present name of the city, “Ludhiana”.

Apart from this, The world bank ranked Ludhiana as India’s top city for business environment in the years 2009 and 2013. It is Asia’s largest hub for the production of bicycle, and the small- scale industrial units of the city drives its economy, manufacturing industrial goods, machine parts, auto components, household appliances, hosiery, apparel and garments.
